It's been six days since my surgery and I am feeling great. So far so good.I've had alot of pain from the gas they pumped in me but from the incision sites and actual surgery not so much.I'm bruised mostly around my navel where they corrected my small hernia. Not so bad though.
My decision to have the surgery was only a thought six months ago.I had been following a nutrition plan, going to the dietician and diabetic classes at our local hospital and still staying at the same weight. My blood suger stayed between 145-200.I was on three different diabetes meds.one of which was an injectable which' as a researched' I found causes thyroid cancer in lab rats! This was totally unacceptable to me.It became even more alarming when I started having to take meds for my thyroid.I also was taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds and a water pill.I walked every day and excersized four times a week, yet nothing was helping.
During this time I continued to research all I could on the different bariatric solutions.I also attended bariatic seminars and support groups and talked with friends I know who had the surgery.
And prayer plays a huge part in all my decisions,so as time went by everything just fell into place for me to have the surgery.
I went into the hospital (Emory Johns Creek,Alpharetta Ga.)at 5:30am,was in surgery by 7:30am,in recovery by10:00am and in my room at 10:30am. I was up that afternoon at 2:00 pm walking. I went home the next day at lunch time. I walk about an hour everyday, thirty minutes in the am and thirty minutes in the pm and I even walk our big bulldog! I follow the liquid diet and have passed most of the gas and am down to one pain pill in the evening.I'm still sore but yesterday I resumed some of my small household chores like unloading and loading the dishwasher and vacuuming the living room.I attended Super Saturday at one of our church sisters houses yeasteday and was only a little bit tired when I got home.I can resume driving next week and plan on going back to my office part time also.
I want to give a thumbs up to my doctor,Ahad Khan of the Atlanta Bariatric Center Emory Johns Creek and his office manager Stephanie. They are great and I can call 24/7 if I need to.The hospital is also wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone in Georgia who is considering the surgery.
I have a check-up Monday and I am so excited to see how much weight I've lost. But the best part is that I am off all the diabetic meds!!My blood sugar is almost back to normal and should be in the next coulpe of weeks.
