Today was a great one.I had my six year old granddaughter from about nine am til two thirty in the afternoon. She was home from school with a sore throat.I still have a little pain, but not even worthy of a pain pill! So sitting with her was a breeze. We played games, watched Tangled, and took a two hour nap. I'm ready to go back to work Monday!
I'm learning a whole new way to eat.Everything they have listed on the second week menu has agreed with me.One day I did eat a little too fast and was a bit uncomfortable for about thirty or so minutes, but it passed and I learned my lesson!.I tried one of the protein shakes tonight. It was okay but I mixed it with skim milk and hada lot of bloating and gas.Won't do that again.
The brand is UNJURY and it tasted fair. This company is highly rated and specializes in bariatric supplements and food products.I haven't tried any others yet so I cant really compare them to other shakes.
I weighed in today and I'm down to 200 pds! Thats 27 pds lost so far!

First doctors visit after surgery
Got a ride to the doctor with my friend Anne. The whole visit took about twenty minutes and went great.I have lost six pounds this week and and my incisions are healing nicely.I got the okay to add more exercise and I can drive! I will be driving to my part-time job this afternoon.I also am able to start on my soft-food diet since my bowel is moving good.
I made a pot of homemade split pea soup last night.Yum! I can have things like mashed hard boiled egg, cream soups, applesause, yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter.Anything of that consistency. But only three ounces at a time. Can't drink liquids with a meal, but thirty minutes after. It's different, thats for sure, but I feel great!
Just finished two loads of laundry and am going for a thirty minute walk with our dog Asanti and then taking a short nap before work.

It's been six days since my surgery and I am feeling great. So far so good.I've had alot of pain from the gas they pumped in me but from the incision sites and actual surgery not so much.I'm bruised mostly around my navel where they corrected my small hernia. Not so bad though.
My decision to have the surgery was only a thought six months ago.I had been following a nutrition plan, going to the dietician and diabetic classes at our local hospital and still staying at the same weight. My blood suger stayed between 145-200.I was on three different diabetes meds.one of which was an injectable which' as a researched' I found causes thyroid cancer in lab rats! This was totally unacceptable to me.It became even more alarming when I started having to take meds for my thyroid.I also was taking blood pressure and cholesterol meds and a water pill.I walked every day and excersized four times a week, yet nothing was helping.
During this time I continued to research all I could on the different bariatric solutions.I also attended bariatic seminars and support groups and talked with friends I know who had the surgery.
And prayer plays a huge part in all my decisions,so as time went by everything just fell into place for me to have the surgery.
I went into the hospital (Emory Johns Creek,Alpharetta Ga.)at 5:30am,was in surgery by 7:30am,in recovery by10:00am and in my room at 10:30am. I was up that afternoon at 2:00 pm walking. I went home the next day at lunch time. I walk about an hour everyday, thirty minutes in the am and thirty minutes in the pm and I even walk our big bulldog! I follow the liquid diet and have passed most of the gas and am down to one pain pill in the evening.I'm still sore but yesterday I resumed some of my small household chores like unloading and loading the dishwasher and vacuuming the living room.I attended Super Saturday at one of our church sisters houses yeasteday and was only a little bit tired when I got home.I can resume driving next week and plan on going back to my office part time also.
I want to give a thumbs up to my doctor,Ahad Khan of the Atlanta Bariatric Center Emory Johns Creek and his office manager Stephanie. They are great and I can call 24/7 if I need to.The hospital is also wonderful and I would recommend them to anyone in Georgia who is considering the surgery.
I have a check-up Monday and I am so excited to see how much weight I've lost. But the best part is that I am off all the diabetic meds!!My blood sugar is almost back to normal and should be in the next coulpe of weeks.
